A little about Holy Yoga

by mommakristi on May 9, 2013

I’ve been tweeting quite a bit about Holy yoga and have had several questions about it. I decided to do a blog post so all the information would be in one place.

My friend Michelle has long raved about the benefits of yoga. Then more recently my friend Sam has been talking about a book she got called Holy Yoga. I broke down and bought the book (first on kindle, then the hardback because it came with a DVD) and I couldn’t recommend it more!!!

I’m loving what I’ve learned so far doing Holy Yoga and I love incorporating it as worship and meditation into my day. The Lord has been laying words on my heart such as “balance” “simplify” and “quiet” and Holy Yoga is incorporating all these words. When I get up in the morning, I’ve been peacefully experiencing worship and meditation, focusing on the Lord, and stretching my body with yoga routines.

There are a lot of questions out there concerning Holy Yoga and I agree, I had many of them to begin with. However, Brooke talks about many of these questions and answers them in the book. I feel very comfortable doing Holy Yoga and have even been able to apply the things I’ve learned in Holy Yoga to other yoga practices (like using the Yoga Studio app on iPhone and even taking a class at a studio). I am able to offer my body and my exercise time up as worship. It is peaceful and comforting to hear the words of praise songs as I stretch and even lay down and meditate.

I am praying about pursuing the formal training involved with Holy Yoga. Y’all know how passionate I am about getting well and helping other women get well. I’m praying that God reveals to me if this is an avenue I should pursue.

Until then, I will continue practicing yoga (via Holy Yoga methods).

Have you ever tried yoga? Do you have any other questions about Holy Yoga?

I haven’t been meaning to take a blogging break, it’s just sort of organically happened. No worries, I’ll be back soon, as I have more oily adventures, weight loss perils, and a new exercise I love.

Until then though, I’m learning to be still, play with my boys, and have some forced rest. I am eager about summer though and having lots of fun times with my boys.

Enter Jen, QuatroMom extraordinaire. This gal is seriously my hero. She has 4 boys. They’re all the same age. Let that sink in minute…right? Her blog is such an encouragement to me because I feel any activity she does with her 4 boys, I can surely do with my 3!!!

And this, my friends, is your survival kit for summer. Jen’s ebook is launching today and I’m pleased to say that I got to preview an early copy. Such simple ideas for activities, all in one place. So simple, I hadn’t even thought of making it a “kidventure” of our very own. There are detailed instructions and even printables. My first project? Well, get pawpaw to make us a sprinkler/car wash system Jen has detailed in the book. I’m sure it will be a hit for those hot summer days.

The book is launching today and I encourage you to click on over and get yourself a copy!!!

Full disclosure: Jen provided me a copy of the book for review. I appreciate the copy as this would have been a book I would have purchased myself!!! All opinions of the book are mine.

I’m also adding an affiliate link. I’ve decided to share things I truly believe in with you. I will always let you know when it’s an affiliate link. And if you choose to purchase via this link, my family will be blessed with a small portion back. You may see more affiliate links on this blog…see it as a MommaKristi Endorsement for a product I believe in!! I hope both of our families will be blessed if you choose to purchase from my links.

Do you have big plans for summer fun and kidventures for your clan? I would love to hear about them!!!

What direction are you moving?

by mommakristi on March 28, 2013

I’ve been able to refocus lately thanks to reading The Paleo Coach by Jason Seib.  It’s helped me put up my blinders and focus on my diet and exercise as how it relates to my entire well being.  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book!!

Essential Oils 101: Part 1

by mommakristi on March 27, 2013

I’ve been very open and honest here on my blog about my wellness journey and struggle with depression. You may know I’m a pharmacist and I’m an advocate for you!  If you truly believe you have a medical illness (even depression- yes I believe it’s a medical illness) I want to encourage you to seek medical attention and talk to your doctor.

I’ve been on Prozac now for almost 4 years and sleeping pills for just about as long.   I know during that time I needed the prescriptions to get through my days (and nights) as a full time working NEW mom.

I feel though, now, that I’m entering a new chapter in my life. As I’m continually tweaking my diet and working on my exercise, I’m taking a more holistic approach to wellness.

(Again- I’m not recommending this to anyone- I’m merely sharing my experience. Always consult your own medical professional with any concerns)

MommaKristi YL Essential Oils

So as I embark on “chapter 2″ I want to share my oil story with my own Essential Oil 101 series. I even created a landing page for all things oils and I will be linking all my posts about oils there as well.

I want to start out by saying that what I am explaining only pertains to Young Living Essential Oils. This is the only brand I have researched and feel comfortable with. I cannot speak for any other brand.

I’m kind of doing several experiments with my body finding the right combination of oils so I can get completely off my prescriptions (with my doctors approval- we’ve been discussing me weaning down) and as I do, I will be sure to update this series. But first, I want to share some tried and true uses I’ve found with these oils.

I’ve made a lotion and lotion bars with these oils. My boys have very very dry skin and I’m finding the combination of coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils are very soothing for their skin (and mine). I’m using a 50/50 mix of coconut oil and beeswax and combinations of both {lavender, peppermint, and lemon} and a blend called {Gentle Baby} (I made severaloil experiments @mommakristi separate batches).

I’ve also started Oil Cleansing my face at bedtime with a mixture of coconut oil and olive oil. I added both lavender and frankincense oils to this for their great skin properties. I mixed the oils in a jar with a lid by warming the oils slightly then adding the essential oil and shaking it up. The mixture is now back to a solid state and I rub it on my face. I then use a very hot washcloth to steam my face and wipe it off. I can honestly say that my skin looks and feels great!!

I have so much to share but in order to prevent information overload, I’ll pause here until next time.

Until then, for more Oil info, check out: Naturally His - essential oils for faithful living

Do you use essential oils?  What are your favorite uses?

Full Disclosure/Disclaimer: I am a Young Living Independent Distributor #1300702. The oils I share about are only Young Living Essential Oils. They are not regulated by the FDA and are not indicated for particular diseases or disorders. I am only speaking from my experience using the oils and what I have learned from others’ experiences. If you do decide to order Young Living Essential Oils or become a distributor using my link and number, I do receive a small compensation from Young Living. My main goal, however, is to get well and share my experience with others so they can do the same. If you have medical concerns, please always discuss with your physician.

Eat Clean, Bend the Rules, Count Me Accountable

February 28, 2013

I’ve been playing this game all or nothing, no middle ground.  Because I thought that was what my body needed.  Dairy made me feel bad, so did grains.  I didn’t feel like I can play by the 80/20 rule that a lot of clean eaters do. At a complete loss on how to handle my [...]
