This is real life. I struggle daily with my weight. I want to be fit, athletic, and healthy. Seriously, I (well not so secretly now) secretly want to be a fit blogger. And a faith blogger. And a food blogger.
But the truth is, I have no expertise in health. (Sure I’m a pharmacist, but in full disclosure, I focus on the sick, not the healthy). Wellness is not my forte, but I want to change that. I want to be healthy. I want to be active. I want to be strong.
I know, I know, but this time, I’m looking at the root of my issues. I’m combing my faith, the food I eat, and fitness to achieve goals. I’m looking at the bigger picture, seeing what is most important.
It is important to me to be healthy and well. My family needs me to be strong.
So I’m writing about this journey.
And today I’m gonna tell you about my fitness routine.
I’m doing modified Crossfit. I bought a groupon, I’m scared to go. So I’ve been doing research (I’m kind of a crossfit groupie). So I found an app on my phone called a Tabata Timer. It’s 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. 4 rounds, repeat twice. Yes, do the math, it’s only like a 4 minute workout, but I break a sweat and I can do it during my #hellomornings routine, even when my little guy wakes up at 6am.
The nice thing about the app is that it thinks for me, I just do the rounds until it tells me to rest. I also have found actual songs on itunes that have cues too.
So an example, I do a warm up stretch, then 20 seconds of squats, 10 seconds rest, 20 seconds of push ups, 10 seconds rest, 20 seconds of kettlebell swings (only 7 lbs, gotta start somewhere), 10 seconds rest, 20 seconds of sit ups, 10 second rest. Then I repeat the whole series. Then I stretch again.
The beauty is, you can repeat it again, do it several times a day, and switch up the exercises. Want to join me? I made a nice little graphic for you!!!
I will be sharing more about this concept of #focusedlife over the next few weeks. I invite you to join me. Tag pictures on instagram with #focusedlife, tweet with me (same hashtag). Let’s do this. Let’s get healthy. Let’s get well!!!

Love this!! Count me in!
Kristi: You’re doing the right thing in sticking with an easy-to-follow, yet challenging workout. Tabatas are awesome, & squats, pushups, jumping jax–these are all tried & true exercises, that if done consistently will deliver results.
I’ve been teaching fitness for over 6 years now, & my observation of the participants who have attended my class, is that those who are determined to succeed will. Often, these are the folks that have hit rock bottom in terms of fitness & health & they are MOTIVATED. Sounds like you’ve got some fire behind you, I know you CAN do it!
IN!!!!
Girl. Hilarious that you mention this because I just downloaded the tabata app on my iphone!! I can’t wait to play with it. Tabatas are NO JOKE and I’ve been wanting to add a routine on the blog for a while. I love this and yes–it’s a great beginner workout!
I recommend that you do this twice maybe three times a week. You don’t want it every day…who would want to put themselves through that anyway? haha!! Great job!!
Thanks Clare! I’ve been doing it in place of the crossfit wod’s that I can do at home (even those I’m totally scaling!!). I’m taking my rest days too because I’m feeling it!
Thanks for sharing Kristi! I have a pretty simple routine too. The less thinking I have to do to work out the better for me.
